Day 5: Puente La Reina to Estella (Auna)

Day 5
13.6 Miles
Total 72.1

This morning was fabulous, we were able to sleep in until 6:00 AM or so. It felt great, the day before we were on the trail at 5:45 AM, we needed the extra rest. Today we didn't have anything to worry about. We slept in because we didn't need to "beat the heat" as we call it. The next couple days of weather are supposed to consist of cool breezes and light rain! (: Oh how I've missed the frequent down pours from back home.

The walk was interesting as usual but this one today we walked over a famous Camino bridge, Puenta la Reina. Later on we encountered some ancient Roman Roads. It was very awesome. We have a lot of time to pass as we walk, we need something to do. Deija and I have noticed that the time passes and takes your mind off pain if you sing and dance your way down the trail. Once we start belting out the words to Adele songs or dance our way down the trail listening to Rick James we notice all the pilgrims around us start walking faster or slowing down.. Including March and Bree. Haha

Estella here we are! We found a hostel and we enter the rooms to see all of the bottom bunks taken.. They saved the ones on top just for us, ugh. Estella is Rather big and they have a river just like all the other places we have passed through. I, of course, have to go check it out. I don't think people swam in this river, sadly I think they just littered in it.. But I walked further down the river to find I nice isolated area of clean water. As I sat there pondering thoughts of my family I noticed some rather big fish swimming around. Then I am accompanied by a mother duck and her 15 ducklings I counted, yes  15 ducklings. It was nice to just sit and relax. I then left to go look for the super market, it was very hard to find. I just wandered around through these beautiful streets asking some people where I could find the super market. I got pointed in three different directions. I ended up buying from three different markets, each one was missing something different I needed so I just jumped back and forth.

As I rest on my bunk bed for the night I am able to listen to a conversation to my left in Spanish, and on my right a conversation in German. If I open up a window I hear English, Portuguese and maybe a little French. It's amazing, it is really inspiring me to learn multiple languages.

I want my family to know that I think about each one of them everyday. I can't wait to come back and tell you all of my little stories and memories I already have. If you are still worried about me I hope it helps to let you know that I've met people doing this for a second, even third time. There must be a reason they keep coming back. I love you all.
