As I type today's blog entry, I warn you now that I am exhausted. It is 22:30 (10:30) and an hour later than my bedtime. We have started to wake up at five-thirty in the morning.
As every other day we woke up early before the sun was up. We prepared to walk but not nearly five minutes out of the hostel we heard a cannon go off, or what sounded like a cannon, but ended up being thunder. Never have I heard any thunder so loud, and I was scared. As we stood hiding under doorways to stay out of the rain, the door opened behind March and Sahra. Suddenly an older woman popped her head out and waved us in, and kindly asking if we wanted coffee. Of course, we said yes.
"The Camino offers what you need when you need it." quoted nicely from our very own Sahra Nielson. Surely this simple act of kindness has not gone unnoticed, and to one 17 year old, this nameless stranger has made a lasting impression. She has allowed me to realize, not everyone is bad, you must allow the good to bring back hope of a more positive future. I have found more hope.
The rain subsided just an hour and a half later. We ventured out into our adventure of the walk of day six. We walked again, hopping over rivers, and climbing up slick hills. Today we ended up walking a good 12.2 km nonstop! A hefty accomplishment from our furthest of 5.7km. But we survived, and now we can go further!
I also met an Italian man who taught me how to count to ten in Italian. That was super cool. I have also gotten good at asking, '¿Dondé está el baño?' Translated to 'Where is the bathroom?' We stopped at our hostel and ended up paying 20€. This allowed us to swim in a hotel pool and get a 3 course dinner from the restaurant because we were 'Peregrinos' or pilgrims. I can say I at 10€ worth of food and swam enough to make it worth it.
Sorry for the brief message.
I hope you have had a good day!
¡Buen Camino y Buenas Noches!
Mimi
