Camino 2014: Day 9 Ciruena to Belorado (Lanie)

Miles today: 18.5
Miles total: 148.2

This morning I got up at 6am and the room was all stuffy and hot. We packed up and sat at the table downstairs to eat breakfast. I had my bread leftover from last night and some cheese and nutella. There was a beautiful sunset as we started walking. There was a park down the road across from the trail that Emily and I went to last night and journaled. Instead of sawdust and bark covering the playgrounds we have in Springfield, their playground was covered with short cut grass like a golf course. (Genius idea in my opinion) There was a zip line swing there and we each rode it once before leaving on the trail.

At one of our morning stops, March was ahead of us and we saw a little puppy walk up to him and start wagging his tail. He was white and gray and such a cutie. As we came closer, we saw that he was just skin and bones. The poor thing was homeless and just a baby. We gave him some bread to eat and water to drink. He kept whining and trying to climb into our laps. We wanted to take him with us and name him Camino, but March said that we couldn't. (which was understandable since we knew we couldn't keep him) While they were petting him, I went to the little market and bought a nectarine and one of those flat looking peaches. I'm not sure of the name, but it was good. We were on our way after that.

The next few stops were quick and for lunch we took a longer break. I finished off my nutella so that extra weight was gone. Mimi and I teeter-tottered on a tiny playground too. Haha. The sun was hot by early afternoon. I burned my legs completely and only one of my shoulders. I'm going to layer myself in sunscreen tomorrow.

When we got to the hostel, it was more expensive because there were no more beds left so we got our own room who we shared with one person we didn't know. The hostel was very nice with a kitchen, backyard area, clothes lines, and a pool! Yes we did swim and yes it was cold, but it felt so nice. It was in this green house thing so it was extremely hot and humid inside but once you jumped in, it wasn't hot anymore. I showered and washed clothes after that. At 5, us three girls went to the supermarket and stocked up on snacks. I bought bread, bugles (which I ate right away), tostadas, strawberry jelly (instead of Nutella), and a package of chocolate covered donuts. (me and Emily both got a pack haha)

We all decided on a pilgrims dinner instead of preparing one. As my first course, I had seafood paella. (which had shrimp, clams, and calamari) My second course was a Spanish omelette with a side salad. It was pretty good. And for dessert.. Flan with whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles! So good!

After dinner I journaled and packed my bag. I need to get some major sleep. I'm dead tired. Hopefully I don't get roasted tomorrow... Got my sunscreen ready.
